Our guide to the 2024 Washington Salmon Fishing Seasons - Marine Areas

Washington is known for its rugged coastline and vast expanses of ocean, inlets and bays, salmon fishing happens to be the main event in pretty much every corner of the state, and the 2024 salmon fishing season is shaping up to be a great one! Washington's salmon season setting process is wrapping up and we have a great idea of what is in store for the waters of the Pacific Ocean, Strait, Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and Columbia River. Usually sometime in late-May to early-June, the state will change from the "proposed" seasons to official ones, and we will have it set in stone (and we will promptly update the page!). Keep in mind that things change, so use this as a reference and save the page so you can access all the direct marine area links listed below. Have a great season everyone!

Washington 2024 Pacific Ocean Salmon Fishing Seasons

Marine Area 1 - Anglers the head straight out of the Columbia River mouth usually find some good fishing here, and when you combine the in-river salmon fishing season at Buoy 10, anglers launching out of Chinook and Ilwaco, Washington and Astoria and Hammond, Oregon get to experience some of the best salmon fishing in the state.

Proposed salmon fishing season starting in mid-June with a few management options still on the table, will update when approved.

Marine Area 2 - Westport is the self-procalaimed salmon fishing capital of the world, and while the large charter fleet based here allows for thousands of guests to experience this fishery, there is also a large contingent of private boaters that head out across the Grays Harbor bar that get in on some amazing salmon fishing.

Marine Area 3 - The most remote region of the Washington Coastline is here, as is some of the most amazing coastal scenery and great fishing. The small village of La Push is the only access point for the area and holds a boat launch and marina in the protected waters in the Quillayute River mouth.

Marine Area 4 - Neah Bay is well known as a fishing town and the entire marine area holds some of my best memories of salmon fishing. Small boats and large boats alike will catch their limits of salmon right out in front of town off Waadah Island, or head further westward to Tatoosh. From there, you can travel as far south or west down the coast and find aggressive Chinook right off the beach or far offshore.
