Daiwa Saltist Nearshore Halibut Combo
We created this combo to match the needs of those fishing for Halibut in the Pacific nearshore as well as Puget Sound, Strait of Juan de Fuca and Strait of Georgia. While the Saltist 40 has enough line capacity to fish deepwater depths, it's more compact size makes it a fun rod to fish in waters less than 400'.
- Perfect for Strait of Juan de Fuca, Strait of Georgia, Puget Sound, nearshore Pacific Ocean
- Depths up to 400'
- Handles sinkers 1-2 pounds
- Doubles as a Lingcod jigging rod
The Rod
Daiwa Harrier X Jigging 5'8" 1-piece rod rated for 80-infinity pound line and xx-heavy power is the rod you need when dropping up to a two pound sinker and leveraging up big halibut. While the blank is lighter in weight than many traditional Halibut rods, it's superior design and engineering makes it extremely strong and can handle the abuse that offshore fishing tends to bring to our gear.
The Reel
The Daiwa Saltist is one of our top-end saltwater levelwind reels, and the Saltist 40 in particular is built for the stress of big game fishing, but offers a smooth retrieve and solid drag system that makes this reel a pleasure to fish.
The Line
We spool up this combo with P-Line EndurX 65 pound braided line. The reel holds 400 yards, which makes this reel fitting to fish all of our nearshore banks and even offshore in most locations.
