This is one of our most versatile non-power assist combos, a perfect fit for the halibut grounds stretching from Alaska down to California. Built for serious depth and heavy sinkers, this maximum-strength rod and reel pairing handles offshore and nearshore applications alike, reaching depths up to 800 feet and sinkers of 1-3 pounds. We're outfitting it with the Okuma SST Halibut rod in a 5'6" one-piece design, rated for 80-120 pound line and stout enough to fish 1-3 pounds of lead, paired with the Okuma Convector 55L levelwind reel, one of our favorite workhorse reels for offshore fishing.
