This is one of our most versatile non-power assist combos, a perfect fit for the halibut grounds under 400 feet anywhere on the Pacific Coast, especially more protected waters where 1-2 pounds of lead is enough to get to the bottom. This maximum-strength rod and reel pairing handles both offshore and nearshore applications, and doubles nicely as a lingcod jigging setup when halibut aren't cooperating. We're outfitting it with the Okuma SST Halibut rod in a 5'6" one-piece design — rated for 50-100 pound line and stout enough to fish 1-2 pounds of lead — paired with the Okuma Convector 45L levelwind reel, a reliable star-drag reel built for battling barn-door halibut.
